We come to a time of year when in many areas things are coming to a close. In the sporting world Wimbledon is over and the Fifa World Cup is reaching its climax. The academic year is also about to end and a holiday period beckons for staff and students alike. This year the parliamentary recess brings an unprecedented change of Prime Minister without election.

As the summer proceeds let us hope that good nature will prevail despite punishing weather conditions. May we all enjoy relaxation, but not drop our guard or expose ourselves to danger. May we keep an eye on the safety of others as we embrace the holiday atmosphere.
