Father God, we thank you for the many people who work to keep society safe. At the moment we are aware that people's lives and livelihoods have been put at risk by the terrifying wild fires which have raged across Europe. We see films of the fire-fighters who strive to bring these natural pheomena under control. Many of these are volunteers who commit their free time to protecting others.

We think also of those people who use their professional skills to respond to national emergencies whether caused by natural events or man's aggressive interference in the lives of other nations through war.

Be close to all these people, keep them safe and bless their attempts at rescue with success.
