The anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine is a chastening event. As we look out on welcome sunshine and the growth of spring flowers, it is hard to take in the contrast between our relatively safe country and the horrors which have been visited on populations forced into aggression. The suffering imposed on civilians and soldiers alike is a heartbreaking spectacle of human folly.
So much human effort has been spent on producing ever more sophisticated methods of destruction. If only the same effort had been directed towards providing benefits in terms of environmental. health and humanitarian development, the world could have been moving in a positive direction.,
Our power as individuals is limited by the circumstances of our lives., We can only seek out glimpses of kindness and care which emerge in the bleakest of situations and trust that, ultimately, good will overcome evil. May we find ways to help this to happen.
