People often seek reassurance about the future, consulting fortune-tellers or reading their stars in the newspaper.I suppose it's natural to want to know that all will be well. However, life is full of surprises; some good, some bad. What we have to be able to do is to face both situations with equanimity.
Sometimes our times of richest happiness arise from misfortune. We are involved in a road accident and learn how we are treated with kindness by the police. We give thanks if people walk away from accidents and the only casualty is wrecked metal. If we become seriously ill we can be overwhelmed by the kindness of our friends ,families and the medical profession.
May we learn to focus on the present day and treat it as the gift it undoubtedly is.
