God, our heavenly Father, we thank you for being with us in the good times, when we feel really close to you. These are transcendent experiences, when we experience the beauty of nature, the kindness of other people, high spots in our working lives and the wondrous fulfilment of family love.

However, you are also with us in the dark times, when things go wrong and we feel to be out of control; if our employment is at risk and we do not know that we will be able to make ends meet; if we feel unwell or depressed and do not know where to turn; if we are saddened by the political events which cast clouds over so many lives.

Help us to remember that you are there and will deliver the kind of peace which passes understanding. Thank you for your constant love.
